Google announced October 14 an opt-in Enhanced protection mode for Google Messages, combining additional message analysis and link checks. It says the setting will roll out in the coming weeks, while broader notification scam alerts will reach additional devices later this year.

The same announcement describes screen-sharing protection extending to Chrome and Android WebView on Android 15 and later during October. Call-forwarding safeguards are scheduled to start in early December on Pixel and selected other devices.

These are separate capabilities with different eligibility requirements. Google describes both on-device processing and secure cloud analysis; the announcement should not be interpreted as every feature already operating on every Android phone.

NAOAT analysis

For an employer supporting a mixed phone fleet, a single label such as scam protection is too broad for an implementation record. A practical inventory would pair each device family with the relevant operating-system version, messaging application, feature setting and availability date. A planned rollout should remain distinguishable from a setting actually observed on a managed device.

The user response matters as much as the alert. A warning about an unfamiliar link should lead to a clear way to verify the request through an established channel. Employees need to know how to contact their own support team without using a number or link supplied by the suspicious message. The organization can rehearse that process without collecting private message contents.

An evaluation should record missed warnings and unnecessary warnings separately. Otherwise a system producing many alerts may look effective while creating work that users learn to ignore. Device controls also should not be treated as approval to transfer funds, reveal credentials or change an account. Keeping those business decisions subject to their existing checks gives an alert a defined role: a reason to pause and verify. The new capabilities offer additional checkpoints, while rollout records determine which employees can actually use them.
